On two occasions I took several photos in zoos. And while most people took pictures of animals, I mostly took pictures of people. While animals are interesting and people go to observe them, people are infinitely more interesting. We can learn a lot about humans by observing animals, as primatologists could attest. But we can learn even more about humans by observing humans, as psychologists could attest. Admittedly, we miss observing the relative simplicity of animals, which makes it easier to distill the greatest common divider between them and humans. It is therefore particularly stimulating to observe humans interacting with animals and how they treat animals, which adds an interesting contrast and another level of observational possibility. And on the other hand, it also allows one to see the similarities and connections between complex living organisms such as humans and other creatures and animals.
